The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: $13.41 hr.

General Description:

Performs entry-level rehabilitation therapy work. Work involves providing rehabilitative services to clients with mental impairments at Pathways, a crisis respite 24-hour program.  Work includes supervision of clients and their activities, observing and reporting client conditions and behaviors and interacting with clients in a crisis residential manner.  Communicating with collateral staff, managing unit conditions and participating in required training programs.  Works autonomously utilizing independent judgment and communicating necessary information to appropriate staff.  Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Shifts are flex. This position is primarily 4pm - 12am. Must be flexible.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent. Must have experience in therapeutic work. Work involves providing rehabilitative services to clients with mental impairments.

Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid Texas driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Preferred: Bilingual - in both Spanish and English. Reliable transportation. Experience working with persons with serious mental illness

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
  • Knowledge of the therapeutic methods and techniques in the rehabilitation therapy area of specialization.
  • Ability to provide rehabilitative therapy
  • Communicate effectively
