The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary/Exempt: $53,064.12- $58,833.14

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with latitude to carry out the functions of the position, performs advance professional accounting work. Is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the 1115 Healthcare Transformation Waiver Program financial records. Maintains the Centers Fixed Asset records, Census Reports, Allocation Distribution Tables and Health Insurance Benefits Reconciliation. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and performing analytical reviews of the Center's financial data as instructed by the Chief Accountant. Maintaining billing and reconciliations on various grants and programs. Provides backup supervision to payroll staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of one year employment experience performing detailed accounting functions and graduate from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting. Prefer a master's degree in accounting and two years' experience in governmental, healthcare accounting and/or auditing. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of finance administration, budget control and fiscal accounting.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting.
  • Ability to interpret laws and regulations related to fiscal operations.
  • Ability of network server based applications/accounting software maintenance and administration.
  • High level of skill in Microsoft Excel and other standard software.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
