The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary/Exempt: $53,064.12- $58,833.14

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with latitude to carry out the functions of the position, performs moderately complex accounting work. Responsible for payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets, Census Reports, Allocation Distribution Tables and Health Insurance Benefits Reconciliation. Responsible for processing payroll records, approving timesheets, journal entries and processing payments. Maintaining and processing payroll deductions and payroll related expenses. Responsible for being current regarding payroll laws, rules and regulations. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and performing analytical reviews of the Center’s financial data as instructed by the CFO/or Comptroller. Supervises the payroll and accounts payable staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting, business, management, economics and/or computer science and four years of experience working with an automated timekeeping payroll system, e.g. e3Datis, Paycom, etc. Must have a valid driver’s license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Preferred qualifications: A master’s degree in accounting, business, management, economics and/or computer science. Two years’ experience working in Federal, State or local government in a related position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of finance administration, budget control, payroll laws and fiscal accounting.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of automated timekeeping systems.
  • Ability to interpret laws and regulations related to fiscal operations.
  • Excellent computer skills in e3Datis, Paycom, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and other standard software.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
