The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $22.20 to $24.62, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under supervision of the IDD Intake, Eligibility, & Continuity Program Supervisor, completes screening and intake for admissions into IDD services. Completes community outreach and education with area school districts and through other Center sponsored or community health fairs and programs. Works with the Aging and Disability Resources Center to assist with screening and intakes. Provides information to individuals or families about community resources to assist in meeting immediate needs. Screens for crisis and makes appropriate referrals, as needed. Responsible for the management of the HCS and TxHmL Interest Lists for Nueces County, including completing biannual contacts. Responsible for maintenance of the internal interest list for General Revenue Services. Coordinates with psychologists to ensure timely completion of eligibility determination.

Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance, and a good driving record.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum: A bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university; or associate degree in a social, behavioral, human service, or health-related field including psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education, and criminal justice.

Preferred: A bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social, behavioral, or human service field including but not limited to, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education, and criminal justice; Has experience with the IDD population and/or experience in direct care; Case management experience; Customer service experience; Spanish speaking

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
  • Knowledge of community based resources
  • Skills in individual needs assessment and treatment plan development
  • Ability to make appropriate referrals and linkages
  • Ability to work independently, organize work effectively, and communicate clearly (verbally, in writing).
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to develop productive relationships with individuals, family members and providers that focus on consumer specific outcomes.
  • Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and policies and procedures.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices
