The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $20.85 to $23.12, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Performs moderately complex rehabilitation planning and instructional work. Responsible for delivery of rehabilitative training for assigned caseload; coordination of consumer's needs in order to maintain stability in the community and achieve independence; crisis prevention and intervention.  Performs complex professional duties related to the evaluation, and individualized program planning.  Under general supervision, identifies clients' rehabilitation and provides the necessary instruction in teaching self-help, self-care or other skills according to the needs outlined in the client evaluations, which assists clients in attaining their optimum levels of independence. Collects, prepares, and reviews case data used to determine client eligibility for financial, medical, and/or social services.  Services provided to adults of all ages with a diagnosis of mental illness who exhibit serious emotional, behavioral and/or mental disorder.

Minimum Requirements 

Minimum of a bachelor's or advance degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, physician assistant, gerontology, special education, educational psychology, early childhood or early childhood intervention.

Experience is social and rehabilitative services work in teaching and counseling persons with disabilities. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to participate as a team member
  • Experience in the use of teaching and counseling techniques and rehabilitation services required in providing effective assistance to persons who are disabled
  • Considerable knowledge of assessment techniques and tools
  • Knowledge of client care techniques, and of treatment, therapy and of developmental programs
  • Ability to plan an individualized program of instruction with the client
  • Ability to work with others and to gain and retain the confidence of persons being instructed, guided, or directed
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to formulate, organize, and implement a plan of action.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
  • Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.
