The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $20.85 to $23.12, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under the supervision of the CSC Team Lead, position is responsible for the development and coordination of employment opportunities for eligible individuals in the CSC-FEP program. Performs routine vocational rehabilitation work. Work involves evaluating disabilities and conducting vocational assessments, and to provide maximum independence and employability. Duties include completion of the discovery process, job and workplace culture analysis, pre-employment training (I.e. interview skills, appearance, etc.), post-employment training (I.e. Conflict resolution, transportation training, personal issues affecting job performance, etc.), and task analysis, development of goals and objectives, job coaching, and interagency collaboration. The position also requires the person to determine discharge criteria and develop a plan to fade supported employment services through periodic evaluation of job performance based upon information from the employer, the individual, and the care team. Works flexible hours. This position requires extensive internal and external contacts with current and potential employers, individuals, family members, significant others, and case manager's, service coordinators, service providers, and practitioners. Provides one on one support to persons in community jobs. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for use of initiative and independent judgement. Represents individual and organization in professional manner within the community. 

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelor's or advance degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavioral, or human service field including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, and education. Experience in social and rehabilitative services work or in teaching and counseling persons with disabilities. Valid Texas driver's license with good driving record.

Preferred: Plus, one to two years of work experience in rehabilitation services. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Computer literate 
  • Ability to participate as a team member 
  • Experience in the use of teaching and counseling techniques and rehabilitation services required in providing effective assistance to persons who are disabled
  • Considerable knowledge of assessment techniques and tools
  • Knowledge of client care techniques, and of treatment, therapy and of developmental programs
  • Ability to plan an individualized program of instruction with the client
  • Ability to work with others and to gain and retain the confidence of persons being instructed, guided, or directed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to formulate, organize, and implement a plan of action.
  • Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.
