The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $19.58-$21.71 for Case Manager I, $22.20-$24.62 for Case Manager II, $22.71-$25.18 for Case Manager III, or $23.25-$25.78 for Case Manager IV, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Part-Time, 25-30 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Provides temporary and/or stop-gap coverage as assigned to assist teams within the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities service area with the provision of HHSC contractually required services. This could include Medicaid and non-Medicaid Service Coordination activities for all IDD programs; intake screenings, assessments, interest list maintenance activities; and community living and discharge planning process activities. Based on qualifications, may provide assistance with PASRR evaluations, Habilitation Coordination, Crisis Interventions Services, Crisis Respite, and other HHSC required IDD services. This person may provide temporary caseload coverage and/or may complete individually assigned tasks in departments to assist with meeting deadlines, timeframes, the needs of the consumers, and/or the Center. Will require intensive interaction and cooperation with various internal departments within Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities. Will complete clinical service documentation specific to the service types provided. All additional documentation (plans, assessments, etc) must be completed within required timeframes specific to each program. Staff must be compliant with Center policies and procedures, program protocols and requirements of other regulatory bodies. Works under general supervision, and requires use of initiative, independent judgment, and efficient time management.  Will have a part-time schedule that is flexible to the needs of consumers served. 

Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business.  Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance, and a good driving record.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum: (CMI) An associate's degree in a social, behavioral, human service, or health-related field including, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education, and criminal justice; or (CMII) any bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred: (CMIII) Meets criteria for Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) which includes: a bachelor's or advanced degree in a social, behavioral, human service, or health-related field including, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education, and criminal justice; and (CMIII) 1 year to (CMIV) 2-years'experience with the IDD population. 

If not QIDP, other preferred criteria are experience with direct care, any personal or professional experience with the IDD population, experience in case management or social services work. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer literate, with skills in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work independently, organize work effectively, and communicate clearly (verbally, in writing).
  • Ability to advocate effectively for consumers, specifically individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of community-based resources, and ability to make appropriate referrals and linkages.
  • Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of IDD programs and services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain skills in individual needs assessment and treatment plan development and discharge planning.
  • Ability to learn and abide by applicable rules, regulations and policies and procedures.
  • In the course of being employed, will learn, understand and implement trauma informed care practices.
