The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $14.05

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Performs entry level to routine habilitative to rehabilitative care work with individuals who have developmental disabilities. Work involves implementing treatment programs and performing therapeutic or developmental activities. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Ensures that consumers are protected from harm or injury reports consumer behavior and progress; develops vocational, therapeutic or development programs. Observes, supervises, interacts with consumers to assist in the achievement of individualized goals. Teaches/trains consumers. All phases of vocational training/ custodial maintenance work are completed according to the custodial maintenance work May train or supervise others.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Skill in operation of computers and applicable computer software. Ability to provide care, training, and supervision to Individuals with Disabilities. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing to communicate and to work a flexible schedule. Must always have reliable transportation with a valid Texas Driver's License, liability insurance with a good driving record (less than 3 points). May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Prefer: One year experience supervising, training, or training individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. English and Spanish, bilingual.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of habilitative and rehabilitative programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of client support techniques. 
  • Ability to provide client support. Ability to successfully complete CPR, First-Aid and agency sponsored training. 
  • Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
