The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $16.49

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Work involves advocating and providing peer mentoring and support. Provides education to caregivers of a child or adolescent who is being served by the program. Uses personal and professional life experiences to provide consultation for staff and non-clinical skills training for families to maximize parent voice, choice, and involvement throughout the delivery of services. Assists with referrals, support and resources to help families navigate the health care system and address the unmet needs of families. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate. At least one year of personal experience as a parent or legal guardian raising a child or youth with serious emotional disturbance or mental illness and one year navigating a child-serving system. Successfully complete and pass HHSC approved Family Partner certification process within one year of hire.

Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid Texas driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

  • Ability to provide nonclinical skills training/support to the family
  • Computer literate 
  • Ability to participate as a team member 
  • Ability to provide information, referrals, and follow up to families
  • Facilitate parent support/family support groups
  • Ability to teach self-advocacy skills to families
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to formulate, organize, and implement a plan of action.
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • In the course of being employed, understands, and implements trauma informed care practices
