The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Works under the general supervision of the Accountant V. Performs technical accounting support work. Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial accounting documents and records in the accounting system according to established procedures as directed by Accountant V. Assists the Accountant V with information requests. May assist and or backup other team members as directed by the Accountant V. Prepares system reports and ad hoc reports as requested by the Accountant V. May assist the Cashiers by receiving cash, preparing deposit slips, preparing payments and maintaining cash controls. May audit petty cash accounts as directed by the Accountant V. Assists with the completion of the annual inventory of equipment and supplies. Performs analysis of and reconciliation of accounts, bank statements, or other accounts and reports findings to the Accountant V and the Chief Financial Officer. Performs related projects and work assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of work experience with accounting or bookkeeping principles. Graduation from a standard senior high school and an associate's degree or equivalent with college coursework in accounting. A minimum of 18 semester hours of college level accounting classes required. Experience and education may be substituted for one another. In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems. Skill in the use of computers and accounting software. Excellent skills in the use of Microsoft Office. Ability to review work for accuracy, to accurately perform detailed numerical work, and to prepare financial and accounting reports. Ability to work with Accountants and to accurately follow directions. Ability to exercise independent judgement, to handle multiple tasks, and to meet deadlines.
