The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $14.05 to $15.58, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description
Under the general supervision of a registered nurse, is responsible for providing mental health services and health care training to clients and staff. Services provided to children ages 3-17 and adults ages 18 and up with a diagnosis of mental illness who exhibit serious emotional, behavioral or mental health disorders.

Education, Training, and Experience (including licensure and certification)

Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program

Medical Assistant Certification

Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Preferred:

2 years' work experience in the mental health field

Bilingual in English/Spanish

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work with acute and/or chronically mentally ill individuals
  • Ability to work professionally with physicians, nursing staff, other employees
  • Computer literate 
  • Ability to participate as a team member 
  • Ability to work with others in a therapeutic manner
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
