The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $15.62

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description
Under the general supervision of the director of Nursing and the Mobile Crisis Outreach team supervisor, is responsible for providing nursing, mental health services and nursing/health care training to clients and staff. Services provided to adults and children ages 3-17 with a diagnosis of mental illness who exhibit serious emotional, behavioral, or mental health disorders. Performs moderately complex work. Work involves monitoring client conditions and helping medical staff administering therapeutic programs. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in health care or patient care work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another. Knowledge of the principles and practices of patient care, and of customer service principles and practices. Skill in the operation of therapeutic equipment and other tools used in client care, and in the use of a computer and applicable software. Ability to plan, assess, and provide client care; and to communicate effectively.

Graduated accredited school of vocational nursing; Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program Valid Texas CMA certification/LVN License.

Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Preferred: experience working with person s with serious mental illness, bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Ability to work with acute and/or chronically mentally ill individuals.
  • Ability to work professionally with physicians, nursing staff, and other employees.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to participate as a team member.
  • Ability to work with others in a therapeutic manner.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
