The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Rate: $21.05

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description

Under the guidance of the Access Service Director, the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Psychological Associate III is responsible for both administrative and clinical duties within the unit. These responsibilities encompass delivering crisis services within the community, conducting crisis clinical staffings, facilitating coordination and linkage with internal and external service providers based on individual needs while emphasizing the least restrictive environment. Additionally, this role involves auditing clinical files to ensure quality assurance and leading ongoing training sessions for unit staff, addressing identified training needs. Furthermore, the position entails offering case management, skills training psychosocial rehabilitation, treatment, and discharge planning, and closely monitoring individuals' progress toward achieving their treatment goals. This role is also authorized to determine the appropriate level of care for treatment by conducting diagnostic evaluations, needs and strengths assessments, and other clinical assessments. 

Intern status licensure, under the supervision of an LPHA (Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts), is responsible for completing the diagnostic evaluation for authorization and obtaining the necessary signature. 

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from accredited college or university with major in counseling, psychology, social work or other field related to human behavior. Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate (LPC-A), Licensed Clinical Social Worker Intern (LCSW-I) or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist - Associate (LMFT-A). Licensure must be maintained, and be in good standing, for the duration of employment. Must have at least one year's experience working with individuals with severe mental illness(es). Experience in social and rehabilitative work. Must have a Valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record. 

PREFERRED: Bilingual (English/Spanish). Must be within 1 year of full licensure or a fully Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) by the State of Texas. Have knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical supervision, management and of local, state and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area.

Good computer skills - ability to enter information into electronic medical records and use of Microsoft Office products.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of mental illness, psychotropic medications, their uses and typical side effects. Knowledge of mental Health Code and community resources.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of professionals and non-professionals. 
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques, tools, and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to prepare concise reports ad communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychological assessment and treatment planning.
  • Knowledge of individual's with mental illness. Good counseling skills. Computer literacy.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training.
  • Computer literate 
  • Ability to participate as a team member.
  • Ability to identify difficulties with coping in community settings.
  • Knowledge of client care techniques, and of treatment, therapy and of developmental programs.
  • Ability to develop an individualized treatment plan with consumer.
  • Ability to work with others and to gain and retain the confidence of persons being instructed, guided, or directed.
