The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Salary: $65,229.36

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description
Under the supervision of the Director for Intake Services, provides screening and assessments to determine eligibility for intakes and admission to adult mental health services. Completes intake including the biopsychosocial, diagnostic impression and ANSA. Consults and communicates with Intake Supervisor or other available LPHA in the clinical setting. Crisis assessments/interventions are completed as needed in a timely manner. Responsible for linkage to internal and external providers based on individuals needs with focus on discharge to the least restrictive environment. This position provides authorization for treatment through diagnostic evaluation, needs and strengths assessment and other clinical assessments to determine the lowest restrike level of care. Certified or will obtain certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through DSHS required instruction and supervision. This position offers CBT to individuals who meet the state's level of care criteria. Facilitate groups as needed and provide any other tasks as needed and/or assigned. Intern completes the diagnostic evaluation for authorization and signature of the Intake Supervisor (LPHA).

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from accredited college or university with major in counseling, psychology, social work or other field related to human behavior. Must be licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor; Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist by the State of Texas (LPC, LCSW, LMFT or PhD.).

Must have at least two years' experience working with adults in mental health. Experience in social and rehabilitative work. Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish). Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and/or Cognitive Processing Therapy. Have knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical supervision, management and of local, state and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area. Good computer skills - ability to enter information into electronic medical record and use of Microsoft Office products.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of mental illness, psychotropic medications, their uses and typical side effects. Knowledge of mental Health Code and community resources.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of professionals and non-professionals. 
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to prepare concise reports and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychological assessment and treatment planning.
  • Knowledge of individual's with mental illness. Good counseling skills. Computer literacy.
  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
