The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $17.93

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description
Performs entry-level rehabilitation therapy work. Work involves providing rehabilitative services to clients with mental impairments at Pathways, a crisis respite 24-hour program.  Work includes supervision of clients and their activities, observing and reporting client conditions and behaviors and interacting with clients in a crisis residential manner.  Communicating with collateral staff, managing unit conditions and participating in required training programs.  Works autonomously utilizing independent judgment and communicating necessary information to appropriate staff.  Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Responsible for providing nursing, mental health services and nursing/health care training to clients and staff at Pathways Crisis Respite Unit This position is primarily 4pm - 12am. Must be flexible. Will also be back up CMA to MCOT walk-in clinic as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent. Must have experience in therapeutic work. Work involves providing rehabilitative services to clients with mental impairments.

CMA: Valid Texas CMA Certification. Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Preferred: Bilingual - in both Spanish and English. Reliable transportation. Experience working with persons with serious mental illness.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
• Ability to work with acute and/or chronically mentally ill clients, physicians and other nursing staff.
• Ability to work cooperatively with an interdisciplinary treatment team in a crisis residential setting.
• Knowledge of the therapeutic methods and techniques in the rehabilitation therapy area of specialization.
• Ability to provide rehabilitative therapy
• Communicate effectively
• Good computer skills - ability to enter information into an electronic medical record and to use Microsoft Office products.
• Experience with self-administration of medication protocols.
