The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $15.39
Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly
General Description
Responsible for delivering outreach services for the purpose of increasing linkage and retention in substance use, mental health, and medical services for individuals living with substance use disorders. Work involves disseminating program information to recruit program participants and presenting information to the community. Increase opportunities for substance users, including opioid users, to reduce harms related to substance use. Increase retention in substance use and mental health services and help address medical needs. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from High School or GED. Have lived experience with mental health and substance use including injection drug use, speaks openly about personal recovery and can identify as a peer. May be living with HIV or HCV. Can speak openly about gender and sexual diversity. May have lived experience with housing instability and homelessness. Meet the qualification to obtain a Community Health Worker certification through Texas Health and Human Services within 6 months of entering position. Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.
PREFERRED: Knowledge of community resources. Bilingual.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Will obtain Texas Department of State Health Services Community Health Worker Certification within six months of hire.
