The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $13.41

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description 

Performs rehabilitative consumer care to include engagement into the PATH Program and linkage to other services as needed.  Provides support, information, referrals, follow-up, and technical assistance to individuals served and provides general consultation to staff and community partners to assist in the successful diversion of individuals with a mental illness to appropriate treatment needs and recovery.  Services will be mobile in nature, contacting homeless persons in the community with the goal to successfully mainstream this population into the community services. Under the supervision of the PATH Program Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of an eighth grade education.  Must be diagnosed with a mental illness or Major Depression, Bipolar or Schizophrenia, or Schizoaffective.  Must have been homeless.  Must not be on probation, parole or other legal involvement.  Must have a valid Texas driver's license with good driving record and reliable transportation.  Preferred:  Graduation from High School or GED is generally preferred.  History of incarcerations and substance abuse.  Must be in substance abuse recovery, if applicable.  Knowledge of community resources. One year direct care experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In the course of being employed, understands and implements trauma informed care  practices.
  • Knowledge of community resources for the homeless
  • Knowledge of homeless communities and Skills in accessing community resources
  • Ability to relate to homeless individuals
  • Ability to link and refer individuals to community services
  • Ability to document services in current system being used by Nueces Center for Mental  Health and Intellectual Disabilities
  • Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle to conduct business. Must have a valid driver's license at all times, liability insurance and a good driving record.
