General Description
The Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) - TRA SUD Services is responsible for providing trauma-informed, evidence-based substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services to adults ages 18 and older. Works under the supervision of the TRR director. Moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position supports recovery-oriented care that addresses the complex needs of individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions. Services are delivered in accordance with Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) standards and agency policies, with a focus on improving client engagement, wellness, and recovery outcomes. Deliver individual and group counseling services to adults diagnosed with a substance use disorder, following HHSC-approved treatment models and trauma-informed principles. Requirements include completing screenings, biopsychosocial assessments, and clinical formulations that support accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment planning. Develop and update person-centered treatment plans that incorporate measurable goals related to recovery, wellness, and substance use reduction/abstinence. Facilitate psychoeducation, relapse prevention, and recovery support groups using evidence-based curricula. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team-including QMHPs, peer specialists, and prescribers-to ensure holistic care. Coordinate referrals for detoxification, residential treatment, medical services, housing, and other wraparound supports. Performs other related duties as required.
Maintain timely and complete clinical documentation in CMBHS or agency EHR, consistent with HHSC and Medicaid billing requirements. Support continuity of care through discharge planning and linkage to ongoing recovery supports, including peer recovery coaching or 12-step programs.
Participate in internal clinical supervision, HHSC trainings, and professional development activities as required. Adhere to state licensing requirements, ethical codes, and confidentiality laws (e.g., 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA).
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) licensed to practice in the State of Texas.
Experience in chemical dependency counseling work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
Preferred: Two years of work experience in rehabilitation services. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
