Salary: "Please note that the job posting rate for this position is $65,229.36 to $69,875.32, the salary offered will follow the starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. However, a salary may be negotiated above the minimum range depending on applicable years of experience and qualifications."

General Description

Under the supervision of the TCOOMMI Program Director, the TJJD Continuity of Care (COC) Psychological Associate provides moderately complex (journey-level) case management work. Work involves developing and maintaining long-term contact with clients, client families, and service providers for medical, social, educational, and related service needs. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Specifically, the TJJD COC Psychological Associate will communicate with local and/or state criminal justice systems, social services providers, and other appropriate disciplines to coordinate services to ensure responsiveness to the special needs of mentally ill juvenile offenders. The TJJD COC Psychological Associate will follow-up with referrals and conduct screenings/assessments and refer to appropriate inter-and intra-agency resources, such as to the Center's Youth Services unit, Center's intake unit, Adult TCOOMMI Services (if juvenile turns 18 before or after releasing from a TJJD facility) or community-based services. Will also complete intakes as assigned by the Program Director. The TJJD COC Psychological Associate will provide services to juvenile offenders with special needs who are being released to or have a residence in Nueces County. The TJJD COC Psychological Associate will make contact with the offenders at the detention center and probation departments, including providing follow-up services, accessing medical records, collaborating with detention center staff and Juvenile Probation Officers to coordinate release plans and ensuring juvenile offenders receive referrals to appropriate treatment resources. Other responsibilities shall include participating in joint treatment planning with criminal justice entities in order to provide supportive transition from incarceration to the community. The TJJD COC Psychological Associate will provide rehabilitative functions, such as skills training either individually or in a group and case management as required. In addition, may perform other duties or services as assigned. This is a pilot program position working with juveniles involved in the justice system. Maintain clear TCIC/NCIC and driving record.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree obtained from an accredited college or university, with a major in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field connected to human behavior.
  • Must hold a valid license as either a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). This licensure must be continuously maintained and remain in good standing throughout the duration of employment.
  • Minimum of one year's experience working with individuals dealing with severe mental illness(es).
  • Proficiency in social and rehabilitative work.
  • A valid Texas Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Clear TCIC/NCIC criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
  • Minimum of one year's experience working with individuals dealing with severe mental illness(es).
  • Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
  • Have knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical supervision, management, and of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to input data into electronic medical records systems and proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs. 
  • One (1) year working experience with mentally ill offenders with mental health impairments and involved in the criminal justice system. 
  • One (1) year working experience with probation and parole departments and understanding of State and Local judicial system. 
  • Knowledge of TCOOMMI Guidelines and Processes and contract requirements. 
  • Treatment team experience. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English).

  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications including their uses and typical side effects.

  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training(s).
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques, tools, and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses (DSM-5-TR), psychological assessments, and treatment planning.
  • Strong counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to participate as a team player.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of professionals and non-professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
