The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $15.39

Full-Time, 32 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description 

Under the supervision of the PATH Program Supervisor, this position provides rehabilitative care and services with a primary focus on engaging individuals in the PATH Program and connecting individuals to necessary community-based services and resources. Responsibilities include providing support, information, transportation, referrals, follow-up, and technical assistance to individuals served. Additionally, this position provides general consultation and support to agency staff and community partners to assist in the successful diversion of individuals experiencing homelessness and serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders to appropriate treatment, recovery, and community-based services. Services are mobile in nature and require consistent community-based outreach to locate, engage, and build rapport with individuals experiencing homelessness.The position will work collaboratively with community resources and service providers to support individuals in accessing housing and other necessary services. This position will work under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Must have reliable transportation. May use personal vehicle for Center business. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, liability insurance and a good driving record.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

• 8^th grade education or higher.
• Diagnosed with a mental health illness.
• Must have history of homelessness, incarceration, and/or substance use, and if applicable, be at least one year into substance abuse recovery.
• Must not be on probation, parole, or have any current legal involvement.

Preferred requirements:

• Bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish.
• High school diploma, GED, or associate’s degree with a major in a social, behavioral, or human service field including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, and education.
• Familiar with and able to navigate Microsoft Office platforms.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• One year experience in therapeutic work and providing therapeutic services to clients with mental health impairments and/or severe mental illness.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understands and implements trauma-informed care practices.
• Knowledge of client care techniques.
• Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training(s).
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Computer literacy
• Ability to participate as a team player.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
• Knowledge of community resources, housing programs, benefits, and service systems available to individuals experiencing homelessness and serious mental illness.
• Ability to conduct community outreach and engage individuals in services using trauma-informed practices.
• Ability to link, refer, and connect individuals to appropriate community resources and supports
