The Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is dedicated to helping the residents of Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We serve over 10,000 people each year with psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, children's mental health care and more.

Hourly Wage: $15.39

Full-Time, 40 Hour Work Week, Paid Bi-weekly

General Description 

Under the supervision of the PATH Program Supervisor, this role provides rehabilitative care, focuses on engaging individual into the PATH program, and linking individuals to necessary community services. This includes offering support, information, transportation, referrals, follow-up, and technical assistance to individuals served. Additionally, this role provides general consultation to staff and community partners to aid in the successful diversion of individuals experiencing homelessness and serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders to appropriate treatment and recovery services. Services are mobile in nature, involving outreach to homeless individuals in the community with the aim of mainstreaming this population into community services. The ultimate goal is to assist in the transition of individuals to obtain long-term or short-term housing solutions. This role will work under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May use personal vehicle to conduct business.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • 8th grade education or higher.
  • Diagnosed with a mental health illness.
  • Must have history of homelessness, incarceration, and/or substance use, and if applicable, be at least one year into substance abuse recovery.
  • Must not be on probation, parole, or have any current legal involvement.
  • A valid Texas Driver's License, liability insurance, and good driving record.

Preferred requirements:

  • Bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish.
  • High school diploma, GED, or associate's degree with a major in social, behavioral, or human service field including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, and education.
  • Familiar with and able to navigate Microsoft Office platforms.
  • One year experience in therapeutic work and providing therapeutic services to clients with mental health impairments and/or severe mental illness.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understands and implements trauma-informed care practices.
  • Knowledge of client care techniques.
  • Demonstration of the clinical competencies required by agency-approved, standardized training(s).
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to participate as a team player.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
